Defining “Keshi”:
When a pearl farmer implants a small bead (a nucleus) into an oyster to grow a standard round cultured pearl, the oyster will sometimes reject and expel that bead. However, the oyster continues to secrete layers of mother-of-pearl (nacre) anyway.
Because there is no perfectly round bead inside to dictate its shape, the pearl grows completely freeform, creating a "Keshi” pearl.
They are 100% Solid Nacre: Standard cultured pearls have an artificial bead inside with a coating of pearl on the outside. Keshi pearls, on the other hand, are pure, solid nacre all the way through.
